Foster a Pet

Do you want a pet now, but can’t make the 10-15 year commitment? Do you have the time and space to get a homeless pet ready for a new lease on life? Then become a foster parent today!

AARF’s biggest need is FOSTER PARENTS! We always have a list of pets waiting to come into the AARF program and the county shelters are always full. We are limited primarily by the number of foster homes we have. Fostering is a rewarding way to help homeless pets.

Foster FAQ

What does it mean to be a foster parent?
Being a foster parent means that you provide a safe and loving home for a pet while they wait for their forever-home. A foster parent is someone who takes care of a pet with that pet still being available for adoption.

How long will the foster pet be in your home?
The foster pet may be in your home for a couple of weeks to a couple of years. The foster pet’s length of stay varies and depends on how adoptable the foster parent makes the pet.

Who can foster?
Anyone that can provide a safe and loving home where the foster can grow and learn and that can provide the time it takes to foster a pet.

Are there any costs to foster a pet?
There are no costs at all! AARF covers the cost of everything the pet needs (food, crate, veterinary visits, vaccinations, meds, etc). All you need to do is spend some quality time and love with your foster pet!

What are the benefits of fostering?
When you foster a pet, you are giving that pet the chance to live in a comfortable home environment instead of in a cramped shelter. A foster home makes the pet’s transition to their forever-home much easier.
